Fiji Trip Cost: $4599 |
Hi! My name is Emily Arvizo Olivares, and I am fundraising for a humanitarian trip to Fiji in June with Youthlinc.
- About me:
I am 18 years old and am a senior at South Summit High School. I have 2 sisters and live with my family in Oakley. I have participated in many sports and clubs, such as cheerleading, track and field, skiing, National Honors Society (NHS), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), and, most importantly, Interact Club. Interact is a service club affiliated with Rotary International, where students can gain volunteer hours and experience. In the past four years of my high school career, on my own and with various organizations, I have accumulated more than 200 hours of volunteer work. My volunteer activities have included food drives, feeding the homeless, blood drives, Sub for Santa, and many others. I have also served in the leadership role as President of the Interact Club for 2 years. As President, I have the opportunity to collaborate with other clubs in the school, such as the National Honor Society to help organize our Sub for Santa program. I also get to help with recruiting new members into the club, so they can see the fun and awesome side of volunteering.
- What and Why help with this trip?
Through my many hours of volunteer work, I want to do something with a bigger impact before I go to university and have less time to devote to volunteer work. This trip aims to build water tanks and filtration systems near a local village. My team will be building on the existing school and homes as well. We will also lead a STEM camp to teach kids valuable lessons and skills. We will also be working with the adults to help them build businesses. and improve the agriculture and economy in the village.
