Hi! My name is Marge and I am going to Kenya to help serve the local people in the village of Nakura. This is a new site for Youthlinc and I am excited to be a part of the team that will build water trenches and catchment systems to prevent their school classrooms from flooding.

Last summer, I was able to offer my service in San Martin, a rural village in the hills of Guatemala. Our main project was to provide dry and safe flooring in the local homes. I helped pour concrete floors in homes across the village. I was able to experience first-hand how these new floors made an impact on their lives. The families were so grateful, often expressing gratitude with tear filled eyes and lots of heartwarming stories of how the dry floors will not only keep their homes clean and help prevent the spread of disease by insects and other rodents.

This summer while in Kenya I would like to be able to experience the same heartwarming feeling I had while in Guatemala. I cannot wait to help these children have clean and flood free classrooms!

Youthlinc is a Utah non-profit organization dedicated to creating lifetime humanitarians through local and international service. Service Year students contribute 80 hours of local service before their international service trip. In monthly meetings, students - mentored by adult professionals - take leadership roles in planning educational, community health, business development, vocational training and cultural exchange initiatives that are implemented in the small village of Kajuki, Kenya next summer.
