Hello Friends,

It’s been said that life’s best experiences come after we are initially terrified because we don’t know how we will accomplish the goal we have set, but somehow we find the courage to figure out a way to make it happen. This is the case with me right now, and why I’m sending you this letter.

I’ve been given an opportunity to accomplish a lifelong dream this summer, to provide service in a town near Cuzco, Peru.

But I can’t do it on my own. In fact I don’t want to do it on my own. Because you are dear to me, I want to take you on this journey with me, in a sense. And now comes the hard part, but I’m going to be courageous. I need your help to reach and help these good Peruvians. Let me tell you how.

In partnership with Youthlinc—a 20 year old non-profit based in Salt Lake City—I am helping organize a two week visit to Cuzco, Peru where professionals like me and young people plan to host a series of workshops and clinics on essential life and health skills to help them improve their quality of life. We are not going to simply “feed them and leave”—we are going to “teach them how to fish” so they can use those skills long after we are gone.

For me to participate, I need to cover the cost of my flight and other expenses, which total $3,900. You are one of a hundred family members and dear friends I’m sending this letter to. If you could find a way to contribute just $39 to this effort I would be able to accomplish this dream, and you would become part of what I’m hoping to teach these good people.

In fact, if you skip a couple of fast food meals and instead make a tax deductible contribution to Youthlinc for my project, I would love to host you in our home when I return for a yummy meal and to share with you more about my work. Then I will share with you pictures and stories of real people that your contribution will have helped me serve. In that sense, we will have served them together. And who knows? Maybe I will persuade you to join me on a future project to help these good people.

Thanks for considering supporting me this way. If you are feeling generous and help support me, I will do my best to represent you in Peru, to give you updates on my success, and host you at a thank you dinner in our home when I return. Just $37 for a gourmet meal by yours truly and some tales of very grateful Peruvians!

I need my funding secured by March 30, 2020.

Please know how grateful I am that you’ve read this far and would consider supporting me in this way. I hope that if you choose to donate to my project, you will feel connected to my efforts in a real way. I also hope it may spark you to consider being courageous towards one of your own goals in this new year.

Your friend,
Andra

Youthlinc is a Utah non-profit organization dedicated to creating lifetime humanitarians through local and international service. Service Year students contribute 80 hours of local service before their international service trip. In monthly meetings, students - mentored by adult professionals - take leadership roles in planning educational, community health, business development, vocational training and cultural exchange initiatives that are implemented in a small village outside Pursat, Cambodia next summer.
