Hi All,
I'm Nayra Green and this upcoming summer I have the incredible opportunity to travel to Peru with YouthLinc. Our team will be working with local NGOs to serve a community on the Amazon River through vocational and business training, education, construction projects, and cultural exchanges. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to gain multicultural experiences and serve both locally and internationally.
A little about me: I'm a senior in the International Baccalaureate Program at West High. I participate in Salt Lake Peer Court, a program where I have the opportunity to mentor marginalized youth in the juvenile system and offer alternatives to punitive punishment for students with minor offenses. Additionally, I am president of my school's National Honor Society and have the privilege of tutoring ESL students at my school. I'm also a varsity golfer and a member of my school's Model United Nations and Health Occupations Students of America groups. In my free time, I like to read, write, bake, and spend time with my friends and family. I am passionate about social reforms and plan on pursuing a career in law and criminal justice. This year has been transformative for me, as I've learned more about my own privilege and discovered more about how I can give back to my community. Through my trip to Peru, I hope to learn more about the culture and apply myself to the service.
Before I go to Peru I have to complete 20 additonal hours of local service. I have completed my local service requirments with over 100 hours of community service in the Salt Lake Valley.
